Winter Warmth
Each year the Gift of the Givers Foundation together with East Coast Radio Durban, provide blankets for the needy! My wife's Standard Bank Branch has been involved with this project for years and each year distribute hundreds of blankets to local communities.
Last year we visited the Sive School for the Deaf in the mountains off Cedarville to give each pupil a warm blanket!
If ever there was a place where Lotto is badly needed it is there!

The icy cold chill that has filled the air over the last few weeks may have been welcomed by some, but for many it means a fight for survival. Join East Coast Radio and The Hub as we help spread the warmth.
Winter Warmth is East Coast Radio’s annual CSI initiative to blanket the less fortunate in our province, during the season’s two coldest months. The station embarks on a collection drive over six weeks in an attempt to gather enough blankets for distribution throughout KZN. But we cannot do it alone…donate a blanket and help bring warmth and comfort to thousands of bitterly cold families this winter.
East Coast Radio is proud to announce that The Hub has come on board as the official sponsor of Winter Warmth 2009. To make donating easier and more convenient for you, The Hub stores throughout KZN are being used as drop off points for blankets. Making a difference is so simple, especially when The Hub is giving you 10% off your next purchase when you make a donation to the campaign at any of their stores!
“Durban has always been lucky enough to boast warm winters. Along the East Coast, however there are tens of thousands throughout KZN that are not so lucky. Each winter east coasters do their bit by donating blankets and cash to those that are literally, out in the cold. We look forward to that warmth and support again this year,” said East Coast Radio’s Marketing Manager, Naz Khan.
Winter Warmth 2008 was a huge success because of the incredible support and generosity of East Coasters last year. Thanks to individuals, companies and schools, East Coast Radio distributed 35 771 blankets, valued at R1 073 130, 00 to beneficiaries in KZN.
The campaign would not reach nearly as many people without our facilitators, Rotary and Durban Deliveries who work around the clock to ensure that the donations get to the right people.
East Coast Radio appeals to you to reach out and make a donation. Donate a blanket or cash to purchase new blankets and the Winter Warmth team will make sure that every single blanket reaches a deserving beneficiary during the six week campaign.

Bloggers Etiquette
- If you link to a site, try to visit that site at least once every 2-4 weeks.
- Always leave a comment on these sites.
- Always be honest and encouraging in your comments.
- Do not use gimmicks to attract readers. This will diminish the worth of what you are saying.
- If you give a blog more than a casual glance, leave a comment.
- If you see a blog that could have potential and you have an idea as to how to make it better, leave constructive comments.
- If you find a blog that deeply interests you, link to it.
- Announce in a comment in that blog that you have done so and invite the author to visit your blog.
- It is okay to ask for reciprocity but do not make your link contingent upon this.
- Encourage new bloggers, especially the ones that represent interesting content.
- Offer to swap links. (This differs from #6. I believe that with a new blogger, offering to help with a link to their site should be reciprocated.)
- When leaving a comment on a blog for the first time, let the author know how you found his/her blog, especially if you found it through a link on another blog.
- If you want to increase readership, you have to read other blogs and leave comments. "Do onto others as you would have them do onto you."
- If you reprint another’s work, be sure that you give credit to the author and link to the author’s site. Most authors, including me, do not mind if you reprint their work as long as correct credit is given and a link-back is established.
- Be careful of copyright infringements.
- Plagiarism is bad.......very bad.
- Language and appropriateness is difficult to discuss. What is appropriate to one can be inappropriate to another. The same goes for language.
- You do have the ability (“Flag Blog") to notify a Blogger of objectionable content.
- However, just like with television, you have the power to not visit objectionable blogs.
I have created this as a working document. I know that I have missed some points. Please, if you can add to this list, leave me a detailed comment and if I agree, I will update this post.
Motorists in SA's Rights!
Know your rights as a motorist….but don’t believe everything you read!
28 06 2007Received an informative email lately from what appears to be a reliable source, only to find it is a fraud? I was forwarded an email yesterday titled “Roadside arrest on outstanding fines – Know your rights” This was sent with the expectation that it could provide invaluable advice for visitors to the Road Safety and Arrive Alive Blog.
The document appeared as a notice to members of SAVRALA, the South African Vehicle Renting and Leasing Association. It included information for motorists on their rights when stopped at a road block, and I would like to quote these points:
They can only arrest you if:
1. They have the original warrant for your arrest there with them. A copy isn’t good enough, saying it’s at the station isn’t good enough either. They have to show it to you there and then (if they have it, check plan “b”).
I deleted the rest because it took up a lot of space, follow the links above for the rest of the story!

Even they are in Facebook , but sorry guys NO NUDITY!

My Ma het my geleer...
Ma het my geleer hoe om te bid. Elke aand, nadat sy my in die bed gesit het, het sy gesê: “Dankie Here hy is in die bed.”
En “Jy moet bid dat daardie kol op die mat uit is as ek vanaand by die huis kom.”
Sy het my geleer van “time travel”. “Ek sal jou tot in volgende week in klap!”
Sy het my geleer pa’s is slimmer en ryker as ma’s. “Gaan vra jou pa!”
Sy het my geleer oor fotosintese. “Lyk dit vir jou of geld op my rug groei?”
“Mannetjie!!!”
“Jy sal by daardie tafel sit totdat jy jou spinasie opgeëet het!”
“As julle mekaar wil vermoor, gaan doen dit buite! Ek’t nou net hier skoongemaak!”
Sy het my wiskunde geleer. “Sit jy alweer en tanne tel!”
Sy het my logika geleer. “Want ek sê so, dis hoekom!”
“Ek sal jou klap dat jy jou antie vir ‘n eendvoël aansien as jy my weer terugantwoord!”Pampoen Poffertjies

Gossip
If it’s very painful for you to criticize your friends - you’re safe in doing it. But if you take the slightest pleasure in it, that’s the time to hold your tongue.
My Name Is Gossip
I have no respect for justice
I maim without killing
I break hearts and ruin lives
I am cunning and malicious and gather strength with age
The more I am quoted the more I am believed
I flourish at every level of society
My victims are helpless
They cannot protect themselves against me
because I have no name and no face.
To track me down is impossible.
The harder you try the more elusive I become
I am nobody’s friend…
Once I tarnish a reputation, it is never the same
I topple governments and ruin marriages
I end ministries set up by God
I ruin careers and cause sleepless nights, heartache and indigestion.
I spawn suspicion and generate grief.
I make innocent people cry in their pillows.
Even my name hisses.
I am called Gossip
Church gossip
Office gossip
Shop gossip
Party gossip
Telephone gossip
Online gossip
Celebrity gossip
I make headlines and headaches!
Before You Repeat A Story, Ask Yourself… Is it true? Is it fair? Is it necessary? Would I want it done to me?
Killing with words …..
Take a minute….
Think ….
There is so much good in the worst of us,
And so much bad in the best of us,
That it hardly becomes any of us
To talk about the rest of us.
Found this somewhere
If someone should hurt you
And say a thing unkind;
Remember that I write to you;
And keep these thoughts in mind.
For everyone that makes you cry
There are three to make you smile;
And a smile will last a long, long time,
But a tear just a little while.
Don’t let someone who hates the world
Cause you to hate it too,
Behind the clouds is a golden sun,
And a sky that’s full of blue.
If someone said a thing that’s cruel,
Don’t let it get to you;
Your achievements are greatly numbered,
And your faults are very few.
So if a certain person should act a certain way,
Think of those who Love You.
And don’t let it spoil your day!
To the world, you may just be somebody…
but to somebody, you may be the world.

Sneeu
